Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you use EZCivic, we collect:

• Account information — your email address, display name, profile photo (if you sign in with Google), and language preference.
• Study activity — study progress, quiz and mock-exam results, bookmarks, answer preferences, study plan, and Journey progress.
• Location — the state, congressional district, and representative you save to personalize location-dependent test answers. The ZIP code or street address you enter for the lookup is sent to Geocodio and is not stored in your profile.
• AI mentor chats — the messages you send to the AI mentor and its replies.
• Voice recordings — when you take a mock interview or answer by voice, we record your voice to transcribe and grade your answers. Mock-interview recordings, transcripts, and reports are stored in private storage so you can play them back in your interview report. Voice answers in the Journey are transcribed and not stored.
• Purchases — your Stripe customer ID and the status and expiry of your Pro pass. Card details are handled by Stripe; we never see or store them.
• Usage and performance data — aggregated page views and page-performance metrics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and improve the Service
• Track your study progress and spaced repetition schedule
• Run mock interviews, transcribe and grade your spoken answers, and generate your interview reports
• Process payments through Stripe
• Send essential account communications

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL database and file storage) with row-level security, and voice recordings are kept in a private storage bucket. Authentication is handled through Supabase Auth with support for email/password and Google OAuth. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following service providers only as needed to run the Service:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (including voice recordings)
• Vercel — website hosting, plus Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights for aggregated page-view and performance metrics (these do not use cookies)
• Stripe — payment processing
• Google Gemini — the AI mentor, answer explanations, mock-interview grading and feedback (including pronunciation feedback on your reading-test recordings), report translation, and text-to-speech
• Fish Audio — receives your voice recordings to convert speech to text, and generates spoken audio (such as the interview officer's voice)
• Geocodio — receives the ZIP code or street address you enter to look up your congressional district and representative

5. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. You can also delete your account yourself at any time from the Settings page. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, study data, AI mentor chats, mock-interview history, and your stored voice recordings. Payment records held by Stripe are kept by Stripe under its own privacy policy.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication, session management, and remembering your language. Some display preferences are saved in your browser's local storage. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the Service or by email.
